The area around northern Lough Ree is tranquil and low-lying countryside with large stretches of woodland and bogland, ideal for walking and discovering unique environments with an ancient heritage. There are a number of marked walking trails in Lanesborough and natural woodland walks with great views of the lake in and around Newtowncashel.
Beautiful waterways – the River Shannon, River Inny, Lough Ree and the Royal Canal dominate the area and afford and ideal resource for fishing, water sports and boating. Horse riding is available in the local stables in Mount Cashel, beyond Ballyleague. The open-air tennis courts, located by the Waterways Marina, is a pleasant spot in which to enjoy a match or two. Convenient to the car park in Lanesborough is a children’s outdoor playground.
