Swim Course

The swim will take place in Lough Ree and is 750m. Wetsuits and swim caps must be worn. Competitors will be led down to the water at 19:20 to provide plenty of time for warm-up in the water before the first wave begins at 19:30. Competitors will be counted into the water. The swim will have a waist- to chest-high, static start, and will not begin until all competitors are in the water. There will be a number of boats and kayakers, as well as life guards on duty to assist swimmers. If you are a weak swimmer it is advisable to stay to the back, as you save energy and time trying to avoid the stronger swimmers. There is a swim cut-off time of 40 minutes.

Run Course

The run course starts out via the quarry and then onto Rathcline Road. The Rathcline Road section is an out and back course returning through the quarry and out to Rathcline road via the trail through the woods on to the turnaround point near Harold’s Cross and returning back on the Rathcline Road and then via a private road and then into the car park and onto the finish chute. Water stations will be located at 0.5km at the quarry exit and 2km/3km along the route. The finish line is located beside the transition area. Again please respect our neighbours and refrain from littering on the course, for example, please place used plastic drinking cups in the bins provided.

Xmas Lights Collection This Weekend.

Remember last year and that magic night when one of our community’s special citizens switched on the Christmas Lights at the Church of the Holy Rosary…well 12 months later we are nearly ready to go again. The committee has the trees up in 5 locations in the village (after a lot of hard work on Saturday) and the lights are going on this week. To cover the costs a church gate collection will be held this Saturday/Sunday December 1/2 at all masses in Ballyleague. Please support and give what you can to help defray the costs. The trees and the lights give a nice atmosphere of Christmas spirit to the village so please help.

Ballyleague help the Mayo-Roscommon Hospice.

If you spot this beautiful quad in the heart of Ballyleague over the next few weeks please pull up and buy a ticket that could make you its new owner and could also help the Mayo-Roscommon Hospice. The quad is only powered by a small motor and battery and is suitable for a child of 5 to 10 years old. Tickets are 10 euro each but for that you could a chance to win the quad AND take part in a draw

on the night of the Tony Healy Memorial Cup card game in Clarkes Bar in early December. All funds raised go to the Hospice and the quad can be seen outside Daybreak and Top in Ballyleague any day. Please support this worthy cause….and make somebody very happy this Christmas.

Our picture shows Tony Healy’s son Shane with John Murphy of the Hospice committee at the launch of the event this week and some of the other committee members also present.

Good news for Ballyleague
