Stars of ’65

Founded in October 1962, St. Faithleach Club celebrates 50 years of its proud existence this year. To mark their Golden Jubilee a number of celebratory events are planned the first of which sees the reunion of the heroes from the 1965 Senior Championship Winning team.

In that final St. Faithleach beat the favourites and reigning county champions Shannon Gaels from the Croghan Cortober area. There is keen anticipation around Ballagh, Ballyleague, Clontuskert and Curraghroe at the prospect of bringing together once again the “Stars of ’65” –some of whom will be returning from afar and many more who are neighbours and friends living locally.

This whole event will take place on Sunday August 12th when the team will be publically honoured at half-time in the senior championship match between St. Brigids and St. Faithleach which takes place in the new Faithleach grounds in Ballyleague at 2.30pm. This will be followed by a reception for the team, and St. Faithleach’s wish to welcome all their old friends and loyal supporters to come along and to meet and greet our guests. We especially welcome all past officers, mentors, players and those who have supported our club through thick and thin since its foundation.

Incidentally, we would also love to see any members of the Shannon Gaels team of September 17th 1965 and we encourage you to get in touch with us so that we can renew old friendships and compare stories of old. In short everyone who wishes to be part of this re-union is more than welcome to come along to what should be an enjoyable experience for the whole community / county so please come and join us on August 12th.
