The Competition

The Lough Ree International Pike Classic 2017 will take place on Saturday & Sunday 24th & 25th June 2017 on the renowned 2016 World Predator Boat Championship Fishery at Ballyleague, Lanesborough on the Roscommon/Longford border. This is a two day world class fishing event with top cash prizes… a staggering prize and benefits fund of €10,000.

This event is organised by the Camlin & District Anglers Club for Lough Ree Angling Hub.

Taste of the Lakelands Food Festival to attract 50 food producers and top Chefs October 6th/7th

The cream of Ireland’s food producers will be displaying their produce at an International Food Festival and business-to-business event in Lanesborough and Ballyleague on Friday October 7th and Saturday October 8th.
This fantastic festival will be staged in a giant marquee behind St. Mary’s Hall in Lanesborough and will feature chefs such as Nevan Magure, Lanesborough’s very own Patrick Guilibaud Chef Kieran Glennon and Roscommon’s award winning master baker Margaret Sexton
Taste of the Lakelands is being held in conjunction with Longford County Council Local Enterprise Office , Roscommon County Council Local Enterprise Office, Failte Ireland and the EPA Greening the Festival initiative.

World Fishing Championships Comes to Lanesborough October 5th-10th

The world’s top anglers are coming to Lanesborough and Ballyleague to compete in the 2016 Predator Boat Championships from October 5th to October 10th.
Fishermen and women from 15 countries will be here for 5 nights to fish for pike and perch on Lough Ree
The event will bring 250 people to the area and is supported by Longford County Council, Roscommon County Council and Failte Ireland.
If you have a lake boat with an engine of over 10HP we would like to hire it for the event

Michael Nevin, CEO of Longford Local Enterprise Office will be in St Mary’s Hall, Lanesborough at 3pm next Thursday August 25th to discuss the Renewal Scheme and the establishment of a new Traders Group in Lanesborough/Ballyleague. Two Provinces Triathlon

Two Provinces Triathlon are holding their Aquathon on 22nd June, 2016.

Two Provinces Triathlon are holding their Triathlon on Saturday, 16th July, with the Kidathon on the Friday evening before. Registration for the Triathlon will take place on Friday evening also and there is limited registration allowed on the Saturday morning. For more information visit www.twoprovincestriathlon.com. Achieve your PB in Ireland’s warmest triathlon, aquathon and kidathon events – both in terms of the Lanesboro’ welcome and the waters of Lough Ree. Our race course is suitable for novices through to elites, and even has triathlon options for people who don’t fancy the traditional swim – bike – run format.

All distances are accurately measured, helping you benchmark your own performance in each discipline. All that and we are family friendly – our kidathon has been one of the most popular races on the children’s calendar.

Two Provinces Aquathon

Two Provinces Triathlon are holding their Aquathon on 22nd June, 2016.

Two Provinces Triathlon are holding their Aquathon on 22nd June, 2016. For more information visit www.twoprovincestriathlon.com. We have the warmest swim in Ireland and will have several boats and crews on hand from our local sub-aqua club along with plethora of experienced kayakers to guide your way or stay by your side for support. The out-and-back run is largely flat with a small trail section to begin with.

18:00 – 19:10 Race sign on will take place in the Co-op Hall located beside Johnston’s Health Bank (across from Supervalu) on Main Street.
18:00 – 19:15 Transition opened. Transition will close at 19:15 sharp. Transition is located beside Lough Ree on the Longford side of the river.
19:15 – 19:20 Race briefing
19:20 – 19:30 Enter water
19:30 Start
20:30 Anticipated finish
21:00 Prize giving/social event

Swim Course

The swim will take place in Lough Ree and is 750m. Wetsuits and swim caps must be worn. Competitors will be led down to the water at 19:20 to provide plenty of time for warm-up in the water before the first wave begins at 19:30. Competitors will be counted into the water. The swim will have a waist- to chest-high, static start, and will not begin until all competitors are in the water. There will be a number of boats and kayakers, as well as life guards on duty to assist swimmers. If you are a weak swimmer it is advisable to stay to the back, as you save energy and time trying to avoid the stronger swimmers. There is a swim cut-off time of 40 minutes.

Run Course

The run course starts out via the quarry and then onto Rathcline Road. The Rathcline Road section is an out and back course returning through the quarry and out to Rathcline road via the trail through the woods on to the turnaround point near Harold’s Cross and returning back on the Rathcline Road and then via a private road and then into the car park and onto the finish chute. Water stations will be located at 0.5km at the quarry exit and 2km/3km along the route. The finish line is located beside the transition area. Again please respect our neighbours and refrain from littering on the course, for example, please place used plastic drinking cups in the bins provided.
